Shadow Weaver  by MarcyKate Connolly.  Emmeline was blessed with a special ability: to weave shadows.  Her best and only friend is her very own shadow, Dar.  That is until she runs away from home and is taken in by Lucas and his family.  Lucas also has a special ability.  The only problem: someone is out to get children with special abilities.  Will Emmeline and Lucas find safety?  If you like mysteries and suspense novels, this is a novel for you!  I would recommend this book for grades 4 and up.  Rating: A

The Magic Misfits by Neil Patrick Harris.  After his parents die, Carter is taken in by his uncle who he does not trust and who cons people through magic tricks.  That is until he decides he has had enough of his uncle.  He flees and makes it to a town that seems perfect except for the magic show that is in town.  Will Carter be able to stand up to those in charge of the magic show?  Or will he flee?  This chapter books is full of adventure and finding friendship in unlikely places.  Rating: A

Making Bombs for Hitler by Marsha Forchuk Skrypuch.  Lida is separated from her sister Larissa and forced into a concentration camp.  Surviving each day is difficult but fortunately for Lida, she is skilled at sewing.  Will it be enough to keep her alive?  Will she ever find her sister?  Life gets more complicated when she is moved to a different area to work and must help make bombs.  Will she help Hitler kill others like her with bombs or will she stand up and say no?  Read to find out.  Due to the difficult content, I would recommend this chapter book for older students 4th grade and above.  Rating: A+
