Atiya Wortham

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year!

As the newly appointed Assistant Principal here at Stephen F. Austin Elementary, it is my pleasure and honor to join you in continuing the rich history of academic excellence this school has been known for in the community for many years. I am truly honored to be appointed to this position, and look forward to working with you all to provide the best possible educational program for our students.

Before coming to Dayton ISD, I served as an English Language Arts teacher in the Sheldon Independent School District for the past seven years. I am a graduate of Prairie View A&M University where I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. I continued on to obtain a Master’s Degree from Lamar University in Educational Administration.

My greatest initiative is to provide the leadership that will facilitate a school environment to provide differentiated instruction to meet the needs of each student to the best of our ability. The educational program must be academically challenging, engage each student by linking the curriculum to previous knowledge and experience, and also be exciting to promote further exploration of new ideas. Parents, teachers, support staff, and administration all have an important role to encourage our children to become active learners. It is my sincere desire to provide expanded opportunities for our students to acquire the skills to become productive citizens in a vastly changing society.

Through a close partnership with staff members and parents at Stephen F. Austin Elementary, I am confident that we can make our school a place where our students can continue to learn and grow. If there is anything that I can assist you with, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Atiya Wortham
